Saint Louis University Esports has been eliminated by University administrators, just months after winning the Collegiate League of Legends (CLol) Title.
SLU Esports Director Nick Chiu announced on his X today that his position will be eliminated, along with the varsity esports program.
Chiu goes on to state how proud he is of the growth of the esports club, which was the largest on campus with over 100 members. He also says that thousands were drawn to events that were held on the SLU campus. Chiu also states that those students on scholarship will maintain their scholarships till they graduate, but the students are open to opportunities.
No word yet on why the program was cut. SLU winning the CLoL Championships was the programs first championship win. According to Chiu, the esports program was created in 2020 after the growth of the esports club that was created in 2016.
We will update as more news arrives.
